Cob and Other Natural Building Workshops
When it comes to learning how to build with cob and other natural materials, your best bet is one of two ways: You can pick up a cob building book and experiment yourself (book list is at left!) or, you can learn from an expert by attending a natural building workshop. Workshops allow you to get some hands on experience as well as make some new friends. Here are some workshop resources:
- Seven Generation Builders AGNB is an organization dedicated to spreading the word on natural building. They offer workshops not only in cob but also straw bale and other natural materials as well. They aim to help any newcomer have the confidence to build their very own natural house.
- The Cob Cottage Company One of the more well-known cob workshops. The Cob Cottage company aims to empower individuals to build their own house with natural matierls not only through workshops but also via phone and mail. They focus on the cost benefits of building your own natural dwelling, and haven built a house with a budget of $500. Definitely worth a look!
- Barefoot Builder A sustainable building team located in the southeastern United States, Barefoot Builder aims to help people learn to build naturally through one day workshops as well as more complex owner/builder courses.
- Earthwood Building School One of the few natural building organizations located in the northeast United States, Earthwood Building offers a wide variety of workshops, books, and DVDs in regards to building with cordwood and timber frame.
